Features

iLabber is the user-friendly Electronic Lab Notebook that replaces paper notebooks and allows scientists to record experiments more efficiently and make better use of scientific knowledge.

iLabber is based on the award winning ELN product ConturELN which has been used by scientists worldwide since 2003.

Key Features are

  • Record experiments more conveniently through a very user-friendly and intuitive experiment editor.
  • iLabber is compatible with the software programs scientists already use. Record text, images and annotations (all common image formats are supported), Microsoft Office documents, pdf files, file and web links, analytical files, data files, statistical data, biological data and more.
  • Record chemical structures and reactions using common chemical drawing tools such as Marvin Draw, ISIS Draw and ChemDraw. Stoichiometric tables. Optional feature for chemists.
  • Experiment cloning. Cloning is useful when repeating experiments or when performing repetitive tasks. Experiment templates. Templates increase productivity and documentation quality. By creating templates for common tasks the documentation becomes more consistent. All users can create personal templates and some users can create public templates. Templates are also used to increase productivity by not having to re-enter the same information twice. Creating templates is easy and can be done without involving an IT professional. Experiment sharing.
  • Work together with your colleagues and add information to the same experiment with full traceability and access control.
  • Errata section. Use the errata section to make corrections.
  • My Lab Notebook. In My Lab Notebook users can quickly access their own experiments. Both on-going experiments and old experiments. Notebook library. If you are member of a shared work group, the notebook library is the place where you find your colleagues notebooks and project notebooks.
  • Powerful search function. The search function includes a flexible Google like free text search that searches through all textual content in the experiments. Advanced search. Search by project, date intervals and more.
  • Chemical search. This is an optional feature that enables chemists to search experiments by chemical structure or reaction.
  • Copy/paste. All experiment content can be copied and pasted within experiments, between experiments and into external software programs. This is convenient when for example creating a report or a presentation.
  • Related experiments. Create hot links to previous entries. Your own and others.
  • Credible electronic records PDF format support. All records are stored in the PDF format. It is important that records can be retained for 10, 20 or even 30 years. PDF is the format that large pharmaceutical companies and central governmental agencies have selected as the long term archival format. Experiment locking. Once locked an experiment cannot be reopened. All corrections must made using a new record. Digital signatures. Depending on your internal requirements and standards it is possible to digitally sign and countersign experiments for IP protection and for quality purposes. Workflow reminders. Alerts that notify users about important tasks. For example items to sign and items to countersign.
