Security

The iLabber software is based on the enterprise software ConturELN, used by many leading life science, chemical and academic institutions. Contur Software has a long experience in working together with these organisations to ensure security and high quality in every aspect of data handling.

In order for our customers and iLabber users to feel confident about the security of the iLabber service the following information is provided.

Server storage and access

  • Only trained personnel at Contur Software AB have access to the Servers. Authorized personnel are educated in the Contur Quality System (CQS) that supports compliance with CFR part 11 and GxP. The iLabber servers are securely stored behind locked security doors in an alarmed environment.

  • All employees at Contur Software are bound by a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement prohibiting access to and dissemination of information handled by the company's clients when using iLabber.com and associated programs.

  • If Contur personnel need access to client information for support and/or troubleshooting purposes explicit permission will be requested.

  • Backups of the data are made on a regular basis (daily, weekly and monthly according to different schema)

  • The server is behind a firewall to maximize security.

  • Contur Software closely monitors activity logs to identify any unusual activity to prevent fraud etc.

  • All transfer of data and personal information will be through our secured servers. iLabber only allows secure browsers to access the system. When you are logged into the system the browsers "secure mode" will be in place. The secure pages of iLabber.com are certified through Verisign, Inc. You can verify the certificate by clicking on the "padlock" image in your browser window.

User security and identification

  • The system distinguishes between premium (paying) users and non-paying users. Premium users are entitled to start a workspace and invite colleagues. Members in a workspace can see each other's experiments and share projects and templates.
  • Non-paying users only have access to their own experiments.
  • When registering for an iLabber account an email with important information is sent to your approved email address. For security reasons, iLabber does not store any passwords. If you forget your password follow the three-step process below.

https://www.ilabber.com/passwordrecovery.asp

Enter your registered e-mail address in the form and click "Request new password".

Follow the instructions in the received e-mail message

Each time you login to the system you will be required to authenticate your identity by entering your username and password.

After a number of unsuccessful login attempts, you will be locked out and an email will be sent to your registered email address with reactivation instructions.

Protection of information being transmitted

  • iLabber encrypts all data to ensure the safe transmission of your information and documents when logged into the system. Your browser provides security by allowing us to use Secure SocketLayer (SSL) encryption up to 128-bit key length encryption when transmitting information and documents. The key length varies between 40 and 128 bits depending on your browser's capability. The highest available bit length is always used.

  • All communication between your computer and iLabber is encrypted using SSL.

Backup routines

  • iLabber has implemented the following backup routines:
  • All backups are encrypted.
  • A complete backup is performed every day. The backup is made on alternating tapes so as to prevent faults arising in them.
  • The backup medium is transferred at regular intervals (once a week) to an off-site long-term storage facility.
  • iLabber has implemented routines for restoring backed up data.
